Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua paid a courtesy call to the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre today where they discussed challenges with the Police, and Fiji's National Action Plan to prevent violence against women and girls.
Naivalurua and FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali also discussed the important role of the religious and traditional settings in prevention, and the involvement of FWCC in gender-sensitizing officers at the recruitment and cadet level.
Today's meeting is the result of a series of discussions between Naivalurua and Ali following comments about violence against women and girls made by the Minister to the media.
The Coordinator and Naivalurua have reaffirmed the need to enhance collaboration through training and the sharing of information to standardize responses to cases of violence against women.
This discussion with the Minister is an extension of the meeting with the Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu in March this year.
The FWCC says they will continue to explore every avenue through which women, girls and children get the justice they deserve.
They also thank the Minister and Police Commissioner for keeping an open door to allow these discussions and to continue sharing their common concerns regarding women and children.
