A Nadi father has raised serious concerns after his 17-year-old son, who requires further medical assessment, was unable to be transferred to Lautoka Hospital for a CT scan because there was no available bed.

Mohammed Kalam says his son was admitted to Nadi Hospital at around 5pm on Friday, and doctors planned to transfer him to the Lautoka hospital for a CT scan.

However, Kalam says the family was later informed that there was no spare bed available.

He says the same explanation has been given repeatedly since Friday.

Kalam says the situation is particularly concerning for his family as they live in Nadi and are waiting for his son to receive the required medical attention.

Kalam has questioned why the necessary hospital resources are not available to accommodate patients requiring specialised care.
