Fiji’s fight against HIV has received a boost as the New Zealand government has announced a commitment of $5.4 million.
New Zealand Minister for Pacific Peoples, Dr Shane Reti says he met with Fiji’s Minister of Health Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu yesterday, to hear firsthand about the country’s national HIV outbreak and the progress of Fiji’s HIV Response Plan.
He says Fiji is facing a significant public health crisis - one that is affecting thousands of lives and placing real pressure on mental, social, and economic well-being across the country.
Dr Reti says this is about more than funding - it’s about standing with their Pacific whānau or family in times of need and backing their leadership and solutions.
He adds this partnership reflects New Zealand’s commitment to Pacific health security, and to working together for a stronger, healthier region.
