Fiji will soon propose to the European Union to open up its market for fresh, frozen and chilled fish from here.
Permanent Secretary of Fisheries Inoke Wainiqolo said if approved, this will boost the economy to more than $200 million per annum.
However, he said for these fisheries products to be given access, there is a need for more flexibility to the Rules of Origin, which set the rules for trading under the EU’s Economic Partnership Agreement.
A meeting will be held with the EU next Month to help finalize Fiji’s position in the negotiations on the Rules of Origin.
