The President of the Fiji Medical Association, Doctor Basharat Munshi has strongly condemned the alleged assault of a doctor at the Wainibokasi Hospital, and has labelled it as a cowardly act.

Doctor Munshi says the matter has been reported to Nausori Police Station.

He says they wish to make it explicitly clear that violence, whether physical or verbal against any doctor will not be tolerated.

Doctor Munshi says violence against any member of the public is wrong.

He says in a civil society, any disagreement or grievance should be dealt with in an amicable manner and violence will never be condoned.

Doctor Munshi says they implore to the public that we should all strive to be more humane, respectful, courteous and well mannered.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirms that a 49 year old business contractor of Lami has been charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of destroying evidence.

Naisoro says when the woman was being interviewed for the alleged assault, she allegedly destroyed the record of the caution interview by tearing what was placed on the interview table.
