As Film Fiji celebrates its 10th Anniversary of the Kula Film Awards this week a total of 18 films are competing in 9 categories while 15 schools from around the country will compete in the Dance Competition.

Film Fiji CEO Dallas Foon says there has been remarkable improvement in the overall quality of the films that the students have produced for the HFC Bank Kula Film Awards this year.

Foon says the categories in the Film Awards include Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Script, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Most Popular Film, Judges Commendation, and the Best Film.

Foon says this year the winner of the HFC Bank Kula Best Director Award will receive, amongst other prizes, a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 from Vodafone. The winner(s) of the HFC Bank Kula Best Original Score Award will get an opportunity to record an album length CD with the South Pacific Recording Limited.

In the Dance Competition, Foon says a panel of judges, all experts in the field, will be crowning the Best Male Dancer, Best Female Dancer and the top three dance groups.

The third stream of the Kula Awards is the Fiji Airways Kula Art Awards where artists from high schools from around the country were invited to submit samples of their work for prejudging.

Foon says over 200 submissions were received from which the best 28 artists were selected for a workshop run by professional artists.

All 28 pieces of art, based on the theme AWelcome to Our Home@ will be on display at the Civic Centre this Saturda.

The winner of the Fiji Airways Kula Best Art Award will receive $1000 cash and the school will receive $1500 cash.

The Film Fiji Kula Dance competition will be held at the FMF Gymnasium at 7 tonight.

The HFC Bank Kula Film Awards and the Fiji Airways Kula Art Awards will be held at the Civic Centre, Suva this Saturday from 7pm.
