The Fiji Roads Authority is currently carrying out the initial damage assessment for roads that sustained damages during the recent flooding.

CEO Kamal Prasad says the two major roads in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu did not sustain much damage however most of the roads in the interior are still under water and these are the ones which are damaged.

He says they have more than 6,000km of the road which is divided into sections.

Prasad says for each road, maybe 7 or 8 sections are damaged while the rest are good.

When asked how long it will take for them fix roads, Prasad says they will get their contractors out there when the water level goes down however there is a forecast for more rain.
