The Fiji Labour Party said it has never supported ethnic based voting and it has rejected comments made by the Prime Minister that the old politicians are opposing the 2013 constitution because they are scared to face the judgement of all Fijians.
Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said they tried to change the electoral system in the 1997 constitution however they did not have the numbers.
Chaudhry said Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama should just focus on setting up his party and calling the elections.
When questioned by Fijivillage if this means that the Fiji Labour Party will contest the elections under the 2013 constitution although they are currently opposing the document, Chaudhry said he cannot confirm at this stage.
SODELPA and the National Federation Party also say that they do not have any problems with the one man one vote system.
Commodore Bainimarama earlier said that these old politicians do not want equal votes of equal value as they held their positions in the past due to people voting under an ethnic based electoral system.
The Prime Minister also said that the politicians will now have to appeal to everyone and they are terrified of that.
