Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says the Fiji Development Bank has allowed many young people to become doctors, nurses, lawyers and engineers.

While supporting the motion that Parliament approve that the Government guarantee the Fiji Development Bank borrowings for the 12 month period from 1st March 2022 to 28th February 2023 (‘Guarantee Period’) through the issuance of short and long-term bonds, promissory notes, term deposits, any RBF financing facility and other short-term borrowings; that the Government guarantee the sum of $200 million for the Guarantee Period; and that a guarantee fee of 0.075% be applied on the cumulative utilised guarantee credit, Dr Waqainabete says many of the MP’s have achieved what they have achieved through the support of the FDB.

The Health Minister also says at some stage in their growth as a family, his parents used the FDB, and he probably is where he is now because of the support from the FDB.

Dr Waqainabete says he thinks it is very hypocritical of all of them in parliament that have benefitted from this in some way from FDB to now turn their backs on the bank.

The Health Minister says they want the rural dwellers to be strong financially and FDB is an institution that will support them.
