Minister for Health Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete

Minister for Health Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete has highlighted that there are times that the Prime Minister and Ministers will address the nation but because of the situation we are in, it is best that the health experts take the lead.

The Minister highlighted this while responding to a question on the Bula Ko Lau discussion forum on why the Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong is the only person addressing the nation on COVID-19 since there is a lot of misinformation out there, and people are still uncertain about things.

Dr Waqainabete says experts should be the ones addressing the public because they are the people that advise the government on the progress of work and what sort of action to take.

He says because they are experts and working on the ground, it is best for them to give out the information on COVID-19.

Dr Waqainabete adds there are times the Prime Minister and the Ministers will address the nation.

The Minister says nowadays most people are educated and they will need someone to explain to them the Ministry's operation.

Dr Waqainabete says the government also holds meetings with the doctors to discuss the work and information approved by the government before the Permanent Secretary addresses the nation.
