The first rugby match that is likely to be played at the revamped Albert Park Pavilion and grounds is expected to be the Escott Shield Final between Army and Raiwaqa.
103 years ago the first Escott Shield game took place at Albert Park when the Governor at the time, Sir Ernest Sweet‑Escott, donated the Escott Shield, with the purpose for competitive club competition in Suva.
The first championship was won by the Pacific club in 1913.
When questioned by Fijivillage, Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer John O’Connor said that the issue to have the Escott Shield final at Albert Park was discussed yesterday.
O’Connor says the final decision is expected later today.
Raiwaqa beat QVS Old Boys in the first semifinal of this year’s Escott Shield while Army beat Police in the second semi last Saturday.
Navy is the defending champion and they lost in the quarterfinals.
Army will play Raiwaqa in the final on Saturday.
The time and venue of the Escott Shield final is expected to be announced later today.
