Fiji’s economic benefits from Fiji International has been estimated to be around $68million with direct spending of more than $20million back in the economy over the past 4 tournaments.
Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou says last year it reached more than 560 million households with a similar reach forecast for this year’s tournament.
Tuitubou says Fiji is now a sought-after destination for sporting events such as Rugby League, surfing, ultra-marathon and many more.
Top golfers from Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, Korea and the United States are vying for the top prize at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.
He says an average spend of a golfer is FJ$5,000 and this is approximately double the spend by mainstream visitors.
