The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed that a light earthquake with a shallow depth of 16km with minor tremors was felt in the parts of the Suva-Nausori corridor.

However, it adds that the light earthquake does not pose any immediate threat of a tsunami to the region.

It says that the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.6.

There was an earth tremor felt in different parts of Fiji a little after 5pm yesterday.

We have been receiving calls from Caubati housing, Nailuva Road, Lami, Namadi Heights, Raiwasa and parts of Nasinu.

The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed that their V-SAT stations in Taveuni, Yasawa and Lakeba have recorded readings of the tremors with their Lakeba station the first to pick up the readings.

It has confirmed that with the information they have now, there is no threat of a tsunami.

The Mineral Resources Department is verifying the readings and information to determine the location of the tremors.
