Doctor Padma Lal has arrived into the country with late Professor Brij Lal's ashes.

She and her late husband were deported from Fiji in 2009.

Dr. Lal arrived at Nadi International Airport with her family late this afternoon.

They were received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.

Professor Lal’s ashes is expected to arrive at his home in Tabia, Labasa on Saturday.

Dr. Lal had earlier said the interment or scattering of Professor Lal’s ashes in Tabia River will be preceded by a formal event at Tabia Sanatan College from 12.30pm to 2pm to remember the pre-eminent historian on Girmit and a true son of Fiji.

She said friends and the general public are invited to the formal event organised with the assistance of Professor Prasad and his staff.

Professor Lal passed away on 25th of December, 2021.

Professor Biman Prasad says the country as a whole has finally seen justice and they welcome Professor Lal home.

He says justice has been done although in trying, difficult and sad circumstances.

The Deputy Prime Minister says he and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be in Labasa on Saturday to finally see Professor Lal rest in his birthplace which he longed to come back to.

He adds no one should ever be subjected to that kind of injustice that he was subjected to.
