Cyclone Debbie has hit Australia, leaving a trail of destruction across north Queensland with properties damaged and people seriously injured.
Striking the coastline as a category 4 cyclone, the storm brought winds of up to 260km/h, snapping large trees, shaking homes, shattering walls, destroying roofs and leaving more than 45,000 people without power.
In Proserpine, south of Townsville, a man was badly hurt by a collapsing wall.
Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart says the storm is very destructive and there will likely be fatalities.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says the Federal Government is working closely with the Queensland Government to deal with fallout.
Turnbull says that they have put in place the biggest pre‑deployment of the Australian Defence Force in advance of a natural disaster.
