Corporal punishment is a crime and it is a form of assault which will only do more harm to the children.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya emphasised this when questioned if corporal punishment will be re-introduced in the school system.

Tabuya asks how can corporal punishment or a parent or guardian be allowed to hit a child and get away with it, which is clearly a form of assault.

She adds this behaviour cannot be tolerated or excused as this mentally disturbs vulnerable children.

If you need assistance or know someone who does in relation to child abuse and assault, then call the Child Helpline toll free number 1325.
