The Executive Director of the Fiji Council of Social Services, Vani Catanasiga says people should buy books, pens and school bags as presents for children this Christmas.

Catanasiga says anyone who is thinking about giving gifts to children should consider that school will start just days after Christmas and New Years holidays.

She says parents have already started to prepare for school re-opening during this difficult period.

Catanasiga adds this is also an important period for Year 12 and 13 students and they need a lot of support at home as they prepare for external exams.

The Executive Director of the Fiji Council of Social Services says their concern is for parents who live in rural areas and would not have access to internet and extra support for their children who will sit for external exams.
