Close to 800 teachers have migrated and these are highly qualified ones - Manumanunitoga

Teacher migration continue to be a concern, and according to Fijian Teachers Association General Secretary Paula Manumanunitoga, close to 800 teachers left for greener pastures last year, and these highly qualified and experience teachers.

While raising the concern to the media during the FTA’s Annual Conference, Manumanunitoga says the teachers who are leaving are not ordinary teachers, and Fiji will be left with mediocre ones.

He says the government needs a strategy to keep our people serving in the country.

Manumanunitoga says most of their members do not want to leave the country as they want to help build the country.

The Association General Secretary also highlighted the need for teachers to have better quarters when they are posted in rural or maritime schools.

He says some of the quarters the teachers are residing in are not up to standard.

He also asks why the government is leaving the community to build quarters for teachers, as they are not financially stable.
