Education Minister Aseri Radrodro says retaining teachers remains an ongoing challenge as many continue to leave the profession for better opportunities both overseas and within Fiji.
Speaking to fijivillage News following the 2026/2027 National Budget announcement, Radrodro says the Ministry is doing its best to improve teachers' welfare within its available resources.
Following no increase in civil servants pay, Radrodro says he acknowledges calls by the Fiji Teachers Association and Fiji Teachers Union for a 20 percent salary increase.
The Minister says there will be no increase but also no salary decrease for civil servants.
The Minister says teacher retention continues to be affected by natural circumstances as well as employment opportunities abroad and locally.
