Chinese community in Fiji turn out in numbers to celebrate New Year

Members of the Chinese community in Fiji came out in numbers today to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Yat Sen Hall in Suva.

Speaking during the celebrations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica says the modernisation pursued under the leadership of the Communist Party of China contains elements that are incorporated by other countries, including Fiji.

Kamikamica says the dragon is revered for its strength, wisdom and auspiciousness, embodying qualities that are believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.

He says Fiji is not just a good friend of China but it also learns from China and with that, Chinese modernisation is a learning tool for Fiji.

Fiji's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Robert Lee says Fiji's recognition and affirmation of one China Policy is the fundamental connection between China and Fiji.

Lee says it has experience in development, education, trading and investment, tourism, infrastructure and many more.

Lee says the new year celebrations brings the Chinese community together to celebrate and enjoy how much they have contributed to Fiji's economy and development, for the betterment of the nation.

Meanwhile, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua and Catholic Archbishop, Peter Loy Chong were also part of the celebrations.
