Defending Men’s Cape Town 7s champion, South Africa will be heading into this weekend’s tournament aiming to collect their sixth Cape Town title.
South Africa has won the title five times including 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2024, but they will be up against tough opponents including Dubai 7s champion New Zealand, Fiji and Great Britain in the pools.
South Africa head coach Philip Snyman says Cape Town will always be a tournament they target.
He says winning last year’s tournament was a massive high for them but the biggest thing for them is to be a little more consistent.
Snyman says they have enough depth in the squad to be consistent throughout the season, even though their biggest goal for the season is to blood new players and to give players opportunities.
He adds they will have to make sure that when 2028 comes, each of their players has had enough tournaments under their belts.
The Blitzboks will open their Cape Town 7s campaign against the Fiji Airways national 7s team at 10.44pm on Saturday.
