COMPOL urges cooperation amid rise in public aggression and arrests

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu

As concerns are being raised on people becoming more aggressive, resisting arrest and drinking in public places, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu is calling on people to cooperate with police when requested.

This follows the incident on Monday night where an 18-year-old man was allegedly injured while resisting arrest while in another prominent case, two men allegedly found with methamphetamine in January were also charged with resisting arrest.

Tudravu says numerous warnings have been issued on the issue of drinking in public places and if people continue to defy the warnings, then police will enforce the laws accordingly.

He says such actions pose a significant safety and security threat to others.

Tudravu had earlier highlighted their manpower on the ground will get a boost as they are being allocated funds for recruiting an additional 1,000 personnel.

Concerns have been raised about lack of manpower as from 2022 to 2024, 1,138 officers were recruited but 521 officers left the force either through retirement, resignation, unfortunate deaths or interdiction as part of their disciplinary proceedings.
