Fiji’s Olympic swimmer Matelita Buadromo has been named one of six IOC Believe in Sport Ambassadors for the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 and is the only ambassador from Oceania.

Believe in Sport is an International Olympic Committee campaign aimed at tackling competition manipulation, which can involve athletes deliberately underperforming or losing, or officials deliberately making incorrect calls.

Buadromo represented Fiji in swimming at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

She has been involved in efforts to tackle competition manipulation since 2022, and her ambassador role will continue through the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Pacific Games Tahiti 2027 and LA28.

In Dakar, the ambassadors will meet with young athletes, coaches and families to discuss how athletes can be approached in relation to competition manipulation and where such approaches can be reported.

Around 2,700 young athletes will compete in Dakar from 31st October to 13th November, in what will be the first Olympic sports event held on African soil.
