The Digicel national soccer team has made a great start to their MSG Prime Ministers Cup 2022 campaign after beating New Caledonia 1-0 in its first group match at Korman Stadium in Vanuatu.

Gabiriele Matanisiga scored a header on his debut for the national team in the 91st minute.

Fiji went down to 10 players after right back Inoke Turagalailai was shown his marching orders after a second bookable offence in the 56th minute.

Coach Flemming Serristlev says he is happy with the win but he is not happy with the first half.

He says team played a very bad first half and could not get their combination game.

Serristlev says they actually got better when they went down to 10 men when they kept the ball and combined much better.

The Digicel Bula Boys will face Solomon Islands in its second group match on Saturday.
