A 47-year-old building contractor of Nadawa, Arvind Chand Rai has been sentenced to life imprisonment for setting alight a kava shop and causing the death of a 35-year-old woman in Lami in 2020.

While delivering his sentencing, Justice Salesi Temo told Rai that through his criminal actions, he has deprived a family of motherly love.

He says the family offered to help Rai but the accused exploited that trust by stealing, murdering and setting their home on fire.

Rai has been sentenced to 28 years imprisonment and only the President will be able to pardon him after serving his time.
