47 families living in the PRB Estate in Narere were filled with joy and emotions after they were handed their offer letters from the Public Rental Board to be official homeowners and giving them the opportunity to purchase their own lots at highly subsidised and affordable prices.

While officiating at the handing over, Minister for Housing Maciu Nalumisa says this has marked a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards inclusive and dignified homeownership for every Fijian.

Nalumisa says this has been a long-awaited dream for many of the families, and that is the chance to move from uncertainty to stability, from tenancy to home ownership.

He says this initiative is part of the Government’s broader commitment to squatter settlement regularisation and the national housing policy that prioritises low-income families and vulnerable communities.

He adds that through careful planning and partnership, the government has been able to offer these lots at prices significantly below market value, and through this offer, these families can secure better financing through the Housing Authority of Fiji or other financial providers of their choice, to improve their homes.

Nalumisa also recognised the tireless work of the Narere Committee, the Public Rental Board, his team from the Ministry of Housing, all stakeholders involved in turning this vision into reality, and the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources for holding the fort over a number of years, since its inception.

The Minister congratulated the 47 families that received their offer letters and said this is their moment, and the government is proud to walk this journey with them, and they will continue to stand by the people as they build not just homes, but stronger and safer communities.

He says, may this be the beginning of many more celebrations like this across Fiji, as we continue to unlock doors of opportunity and ownership for our people.
