Prime Minister and President of the Fiji Rugby Union Voreqe Bainimarama receives the cheque.

The Olympic gold medal winning Fiji 7s team will receive more money as the Vodafone Fiji led consortium of sponsors today handed over a $340,000 bonus cheque to Prime Minister and President of the Fiji Rugby Union Voreqe Bainimarama.

The 17 players and officials will receive $20,000 each.

Vodafone Fiji CEO Pradeep Lal said that what is most commendable is the manner in which the win was achieved.

Lal says it is certainly worthy of a Hollywood movie.

He thanked the team for the glory they have bestowed on our tiny nation.

Lal says the sponsors are proud of the team’s achievements and the bonus is their hard earned reward.

He also says that their finance team will be happy to guide the players on the kind of investment they can make to ensure some financial security for their future.

The consortium of sponsors is made up of Vodafone Fiji, Fiji Airways, CJ Patel, HFC and TFL.

Lal also says that the World Rugby 7s series starts again in December and as defending champions, they must get back into title defence mode.

While receiving the cheque, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama thanked the sponsors for the bonus for the players.

Captain, Osea Kolinisau also thanked the consortium on behalf of the team for their huge appreciation and for being there for the team from day one.
