300 jobs are expected to be created when Amex Resources Limited will begin full operations in Fiji soon.

Managing Director Amex Resources Limited Matthew Collard said positions offered by the company, are expected to be filled by next Thursday, when the construction of the $200 million iron sands stockpiling site begins in Lautoka.

Collard said the stockpiling site is multi-faceted and will take 18 months to construct.

He said among the works is the construction of a 180 meter long enclosed stockpile shed which will have the capacity to store up to 75,000 tonnes of ironsand concentrate from the Ba River.

Dredging is also part of the works to create an exclusive 200 meter berth, which will allow vessels up to 60,000 tonnes access to load the ironsands concentrate via covered conveyors.

Collard said Amex aims to export 750,000 tonnes per annum of iron sand to China once the stockpile shed is built.

He confirmed the company has already signed a 10 year off-take agreement with a large State Owned Entity in China for two thirds of its scheduled production.

Meanwhile Director of Mining Malakai Finau confirms the export of iron sands is expected to bring millions of dollars to the Fijian economy.
