30 Fijians awarded Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships to study in Fiji

A 19-year-old student from Nabouwalu, Bua is the youngest recipient among the 30 Fijians who were today awarded the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships to study in Fiji.

Kartik Kaushal Singh is now able to pursue his dreams of becoming an electrical engineer.

He will be studying Diploma in Electrical Engineering at the Fiji National University.

Singh says helping his father who is a mechanic by profession is what inspired him to study to become an electrical engineer.

Singh says he has faced challenges since coming to Suva such as familiarizing himself with travel routes as well as the different lifestyle.

Meanwhile, Ilisabeta Susunikoro is also a proud recipient of the scholarship says she will be undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at the Fiji National University.

The 41-year-old who is currently a nurse in Namosi says that she loves the challenges and wishes to upskill to further help people.

She says that she also knows the responsibility she has to her two sons after the passing of her husband six years ago.

Speaking at the event, Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes told the recipients that the new environment will be challenging to them, however Feakes has encouraged them to embrace the new environment and challenges.
