22-year-old Mosese Cama who murdered and raped a 65-year-old woman in a village in Savusavu has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

The incident occurred on 30th December 2018.

Cama entered the woman’s house and struck her on the head several times with an iron rod before raping her and stealing her property.

Raikadroka's body was found in her house by her daughter the next morning.

Justice Goundar says Cama was known to have a history of mental illness.

He says Cama lived with his widowed mother and had no support for his mental illness.

Justice Goundar says the man will continue to receive treatment in a secured Corrections Facility and a pardon may only be considered when he is no longer a threat to the safety of the community.
