The 2019 Pigeon shooting season will start from next Sunday and will be till the 14th of next month and is in accordance with Section 5 of the Birds and Game Protection Act Cap 170.

Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says it is stipulated under Section 9 Subsection (1), (2) and (3) that every person intending to kill or take game during this opening season should carry a valid “License to Kill or Take Game” for 2019.

Dr. Reddy says the license should be carried at all times and produced on demand whilst engaged in killing or taking game.

He adds game rangers will be present to monitor and penalize offenders who fail to comply with the Birds and Game Protection Act.

Dr. Reddy says there are reserved areas within which it is unlawful for any person to shoot, capture, take or destroy or attempt to shoot.

The Ministry of Agriculture will also review to determine the extent of killing and taking of game through a campaign to monitor and maintain bird population for the protection of biodiversity and the environment.
