More than 200 Fijians can now secure a paid job in the maritime sector after completing a 3-month training on Boat Master License and Restricted Master Engineer Class 6, which was conducted by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

While officiating at the closing ceremony, Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala says the primary objective of the training was for all participants to have a boat license.

He says the Government is looking to harness the abilities of the youth and capitalise on their potential.

Bala says the objective was also for the safety of boat passengers using boats to travel to sea or the outer islands.

The training was a result of the request made by the youth of Korovou Village in Tavua and also saw participation from trainees who travelled from as far as the Yasawa Islands, Malolo, Kadavu, Lau, Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba.
