200 families facing the economic wrath of COVID-19 in the Western Division have received food packs through a donation by Amazing Foods & Plastic Groups Pty Fiji Ltd and JPT Enterprise.

The food packs were officially handed over to Commissioner Western Division, Mesake Ledua in Lautoka on Friday.

Ledua conveyed the government’s appreciation and gratitude to the management of the two companies.

He says the food assistance will certainly bring smiles to the needy families and assist them immensely in overcoming the challenges they face in terms of addressing food security and making ends meet.

The food packs have been distributed by a team from the office of Lautoka District Officer to needy families living near the Vunato rubbish dump and to other families living near Lovu seaside, outside Lautoka City.

Ledua says the two companies that came forward with the donation had always bought scrap metals and other stuff from families residing near the Vunato rubbish dump.

He adds most of these families had been unemployed or are facing financial hardships due to the closing down of non-essential business operations.
