2 offshore investors show interest in investing in establishing the Fijian medicinal cannabis industry
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has confirmed that two offshore investors have shown interest in investing in the establishment of a medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.

While speaking during a press conference, Kamikamica says the investors are from Australia and New Zealand and both have been in the business of producing medicinal cannabis.

Kamikamica says the intention is for them to screen through once the legislation is done, but they are already experienced in running factories.

He says this, of course, is positive for Fiji because these investors will be bringing in foreign investments but will also bring in the necessary expertise required for this complex process.

He adds if the project is approved, the location of cannabis farming will be decided by the investors themselves and could be anywhere in Fiji.

Kamikamica says the only important thing to know is that it is a factory-type facility, highly secured with camera monitoring and the checking of the production schedules and also tracking the produce will be done.

He says all these are required from the regulatory standpoint of the Ministry of Health and the Police.

The nationwide consultation on the medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji will begin from Monday and will end on the 19th of this month.
