13 serious accidents recorded this year

The Fiji Police Force have recorded 13 serious accidents in the last 13 days which raises serious concerns for both drivers and pedestrians.

Police Director of Traffic and Transport Control, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mitieli Divuana says safety on the roads should be our top priority as school will be starting soon.

Divuana says the Police has not recorded any fatalities so far this year compared to the two last year.

The Director Traffic says they are concerned about the high number of serious accidents that involved drivers that failed to control their vehicles ending up in the drains.

Out of the 13 serious accidents, 11 cases were recorded where drivers were speeding and felt fatigue.

The Fiji Police Force is urging drivers to take rests on long trips and not to rush.

SSP Divuana says traffic officers will continue to be around to conduct checks and provide awareness to drivers.

He said drivers can stop at Community Posts along the highway and rest for a few minutes before continuing with their trip.
