Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says the seizure of illicit drugs is a reflection of the demand in society, and this is why law enforcement in Fiji needs to be alert as our seas are being used as transit points.
Qiliho told the 30 officers who graduated from the Narcotics Control Investigation Course that he does not want drug cartels or small‑time dealers to have the upper hand on them.
The Police Commissioner says if they do not commit themselves to this fight, then our children and grandchildren will face a grim future ‑ and that is a guilt people will carry to their graves.
He says as the drug dealers and cartels get richer, the society gets poorer, productive people become unproductive and they succumb to the consequences of drugs.
Qiliho adds drug cartels and those involved have been described as brazen, shameless and bold, because they are willing to take any risk even if it means hurting innocent people – just so they can fill their pockets.
