Some good news as Fijians who wish to travel to Australia may have a longer stay, easier and flexible visa after the implementation of the Vuvale Union which is expected to make travel between the two countries easier.
This was highlighted by the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Peter Roberts during the fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan when questioned on Fijians calling for visa free travel to Australia for years.
The High Commissioner says Australia has a universal visa system whereby anyone who travels to Australia must have a visa.
However, Roberts says under the Vuvale Union, regulatory changes will be made to extend the time that people are able to stay on a visitor visa, especially for business visas.
He says business travellers will also have the opportunity to apply for multiple-entry visas valid for up to five years.
He says they will also be working to simplify the visa application processes, particularly for people who have previously held an Australian visa and applicants may no longer have to repeatedly provide the same information each time they apply.
The High Commissioner says this will also allow Fijians to travel to Australia and return to Fiji more easily and for longer periods, while also encouraging more Australians to visit Fiji, invest and bring their skills to the country.
