Leader of the National Federation Party, Professor Biman Prasad and Local Government Minister, Praveen Bala

The leader of the National Federation Party, Professor Biman Prasad is claiming that those who are running municipal councils are only listening to the Minister responsible and are not accountable to anyone else.

Prasad highlighted this while addressing party supporters at NFP's Annual Convention in Lautoka.

Prasad says that a person from Waiyavi, Lautoka has told him that he went to see the CEO of the Lautoka City Council on many occasions but he does not get the response in relation to his concerns.

NFP's leader says they will hold elections for the Sugarcane Growers Council, Town and City Councils and Advisory Councillors as soon as they come in power next year.

When contacted by Fijivillage, Local Government Minister, Praveen Bala says there is no truth in Prasad's claim as ratepayers have the full say in regards to the running of the municipalities.

Bala says he needs more details in relation to this complaint and wants the complainant to contact him directly.

The Local Government Minister has also stated that Municipal Councils run their own affairs.
