Balancing academics, sports and choir commitments has been one of the biggest challenges for the Suva Grammar School Choir as students prepared for this year’s Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Annual Conference 2026.
Choir Director Asenaca Saumi Lelesiga says the students have been preparing since the beginning of the year, with much of their practice taking place during lunch breaks.
Lelesiga says the choir also had limited time to practise as students were preparing for the school concert while keeping up with their academic and sporting commitments.
She says despite the challenges, the students remained committed to their preparations.
Lelesiga says at Suva Grammar School, academics, sports and singing all play an important role, with the school continuing to encourage students to develop in different areas.
She says their performances are also about giving glory to God, which was behind their decision to sing And the Glory of the Lord.
Lelesiga says the songs also carry special meaning following Suva Grammar School's success in the 2026 Vodafone Super Deans, as the choir dedicates the songs to the school's victory.
She says they believe God is behind the school's achievements, including its success in academics and sports.
Suva Grammar School ended a 21-year wait for the Vodafone Super Deans Under-18 title after defeating Lelean Memorial School 36-21 in the final at the HFC Bank Stadium.
Lelesiga also thanked the teachers, former students and everyone who has continued to support the choir and the school.
