More than 450 villagers from 87 families in Gusuisavu Village in Naitasiri will benefit from the commissioning of their new borehole water system by the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo.

The project, which is valued at approximately $207,000, will provide a cleaner and more sustainable groundwater source for the community.

The new borehole system is also expected to improve public health, reduce daily hardships, strengthen water security, and provide greater confidence for the future of the village.

While commissioning the new borehole, Vosarogo highlighted the importance of groundwater in strengthening Fiji’s water security, particularly for rural communities facing changing weather patterns and climate-related challenges.

He says the Coalition Government remains focused on practical development that directly benefits ordinary people.

The Minister says access to safe drinking water remains a national priority because healthy communities are the foundation of a stronger Fiji.

He also encouraged the Gusuisavu Water Committee and villagers to work together in maintaining the borehole system, protecting the surrounding environment, and continuing sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting.

Vosarogo also spoke on key social issues affecting communities, including the rise in HIV/AIDS cases, drug use among youths, teenage pregnancy, and the current fuel situation, urging villagers to make productive use of their land as the country prepares for increasing costs of goods and services.
