20-year-old Mohammed Shaforz Ierfan is a living example of school dropouts as he fought hard to get back to school after missing out on studies for two years.
Ierfan who is now in Year 13 at Saraswati College in Nausori and studies with students who are two or one year younger than him was inducted as a Senior Prefect.
Ierfan says he was in Year 12 in 2014 when his house was destroyed in a fire in Dilkusha, Nausori and had to leave school to support family build their new home.
He worked at a Garment factory and slept on cardboard with eight siblings and parents for three months.
Ierfan says life threw immense challenges but this did not stop him from returning to school.
Things started to normalise at his home and Ierfan managed to convince the Principal of Saraswati College Wasu Deo, to give him the chance of resuming studies.
Ierfan did not let them down but instead made everyone proud by scoring 330 marks out of 400 in the Year 12 exam last year.
Ierfan has set his goal to become a lawyer and is hoping to study under the TELS program.
A total of 60 students were inducted as prefects at Saraswati College today and Minister for Local Government and Infrastructure, Parveen Bala officiated at the program.
Shakeel Chand and Priyanka Chand were inducted as the Head Boy and Head Girl of Saraswati College.
