Residents in Sigatoka continue to face water disruptions, increasing frustration among parents as they send their children to school amid ongoing water issues.
Speaking to fijivillage News, a Malaqereqere resident says they again experienced a water outage early this morning, creating frustration among parents who were preparing their children for school.
She shares that her husband is a heart patient who is currently admitted in hospital adding the ongoing water disruptions have made it difficult for the family to prepare meals, wash clothes and carry out other daily activities that require water.
She also says the situation has worsened so much that she stays up until 1 or 2am waiting for the water supply to be restored so that she can complete necessary household chores that have piled up due to the lack of water
The resident says while the Water Authority of Fiji sends water trucks, the supply provided is not enough to meet household needs, especially when there is a family member in hospital.
She says the water disruptions have become the new norm, with residents experiencing water outages almost all the time.
She says the continuous water issues have left residents feeling helpless, and they are calling on the Government to step in and permanently resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Public Works has responded to an Opposition MP’s email regarding the water crisis faced by thousands of residents in Sigatoka, confirming that he is looking into the Sigatoka water supply issue.
We have sent questions to the Ministry of Public Works and the Water Authority of Fiji as they remain silent.
