A Nadi resident is calling for an ear and nose specialist to be available at Lautoka Aspen Hospital, raising concerns that the hospital has been without a specialist for the past four months.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, says around 60 people were waiting when he visited the hospital on Friday.
He says it is disappointing that patients are not receiving the services they need.
The resident says he also tried contacting the Ministry of Health, and they told him they do not know anything.
He says Aspen Hospital staff have been advising patients to travel to Suva for treatment, but not everyone can afford to travel or is well enough to make the journey to CWM Hospital.
The resident also told fijivillage News that patients are often given appointments for later dates and, at times, have to see SOPD doctors because a specialist is not available.
The resident is calling for immediate action, saying patients should not have to spend time and money travelling from Nadi to Lautoka only to find that the specialist is unavailable and they have to return on another day.
We have sent questions to the Ministry of Health.
