A school swimming trial was all it took to uncover the talent of 11-year-old Lomani Tiko, who is now making a splash at the National Schools Age Group Swimming Championship with multiple wins for Veiuto Primary School.
Competing at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre, Tiko won the heats of the boys' 100-metre freestyle and also claimed victories yesterday in the 50m backstroke and the 4x100m medley relay.
The young swimmer says he was proud to deliver for his school on the national stage.
He has thanked his coach for all the training, his parents for their support and the Lord for giving him this talent.
Tiko's journey into competitive swimming began when he took part in swimming trials at his school.
He says he liked the sport, so he asked his mother to put him in a swimming club.
His performances at this year's championship has demonstrated the progress he has made in the pool.
