Meli Bainimarama handed prison sentence in Australia

Meli Bainimarama has been sentenced to 28 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of 14 months.

He is the son of former Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

The sentence was delivered by the Parramatta Court today.

Bainimarama was charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has been sentenced to an aggregate term of imprisonment of 28 months to commence on 8th November 2024 and expiring on 7th March 2027 with a non-parole period of 14 months.

He is to be released on parole on 7th January 2026. The court has said Bainimarama is convicted and sentenced to a Community Correction Order for a period of 2 years to commencing today and expiring on 26th November 2026.

This Community Correction Order is subject to the following standard conditions:

a) The offender is not to commit any offence while subject to this Community Correction Order

b) The offender must appear before the Court if called upon to do so at any time during the term of the Community Correction Order.
