Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation President, Sandeep Chauhan says he would be surprised if businesses do not take advantage of the initiatives announced in the 2021/2022 National Budget because there are a lot of incentives for those businesses who are struggling.

Chauhan says the $200 million in loans which is available to businesses to meet their working capital needs is a really attractive deal and businesses that need to use this should go for it.

He says the announcement of the unemployment income support for affected people will not only help the individuals but will put money back into the economy.

Chauhan also says they stand by Government’s 'no jab, no job' policy because it is the only way forward and the Federation was encouraging this even before it was regulated by the Government.

He adds unfortunately there is no middle ground for this and if we do not achieve herd immunity, we will just keep getting into the same cycle.

He says they applaud the Government for taking this step.

Chauhan adds from a business perspective, it is mostly the employees who are hesitant to get the vaccine and not the employers.

He says businesses will have to draw the line and ensure that their employees are vaccinated.
