UNICEF Pacific Representative Jonathan Veitch says families living in remote areas, or those with children with disabilities, have challenges in accessing quality Early Childhood Development services.

While speaking at the signing of the National ECD Policy at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Veitch says nearly 10 percent of Fiji's population is in early childhood, with approximately 88,000 children aged between 0 to 8 years.

He says these population are our future.

He adds every child has the right to the best start in life and this includes the right to good nutrition and stimulation, responsive care, early learning, health and a safe environment.

The UNICEF Pacific Representative says these rights provide children with the opportunity to grow and develop to their full potential.

He also congratulated the Government for its commitment to ensuring the holistic development of the youngest citizens of the country.
