Acting Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa

The Fijian Elections Office has today received the submissions made by the FijiFirst Party, and their suspension has been lifted.

Acting Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa says FijiFirst submitted their audited accounts to the FEO this afternoon and having complied with the requirements of the law, the suspension is now lifted.

The Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act requires all parties to provide to the Registrar, within 3 months after the end of each financial year, the record of accounts of its income, expenditure, assets and liabilities audited by an auditor certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

She says the New Generation Party’s account did not meet the requirements of the law and will therefore remain suspended.

Mataiciwa says the New Generation Party did not meet the requirements of the Political Parties Act and for this reason, will remain suspended.

The Acting Registrar says should they not comply, this suspension will be extended to 15th July 2023.

Mataiciwa adds the party has until 15th July to remedy the breach or otherwise justify why the party should not be deregistered.
