Education Minister Premila Kumar has announced that face to face classes for Early Childhood Education to Year 7 will start from the 10th of January, next year.

Kumar says this decision was taken after discussions with relevant stakeholders such as the Health Ministry.

Kumar also says as announced earlier, the classes for Year 8 to 13 will resume on the 4th of January, next year.

She adds that when ECE to Year 13 students resume classes they will continue with the normal learning and teaching in line with the realigned curriculum.

Kumar also says exams for Year 13 will be held from 1st to 11th February next year and the results are expected to be released on 17th March while the exam for Year 12 will be from the 7th to 17th of February and results are expected to be out on the 6th of April.

The Education Minister says after the Year 12 students sit for their external exam, they will stay home and wait for their results before proceeding to Year 13 in April.

The Minister also highlighted that at this stage school uniforms are not mandatory and students may come to school in outings if they do not have the appropriate uniforms.

However, Kumar says students are expected to come to school in appropriate uniforms when the new school year starts in April next year.
