Acting Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Sevuloni Naucukidi, who was earlier allowed by Suva Magistrates Court to travel to New Zealand for official business has informed Ministry of Justice of his withdrawal from the trip.

Naucukidi is charged with one count of criminal intimidation.

Ministry of Justice confirms that the Acting Corrections Commissioner advised the Minister and Acting Attorney General, Siromi Turaga about this.

They say Naucukidi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Minister's delegation but stated that his personal and professional responsibilities within the Corrections Service given the current situation has to be prioritised.

He also stated that he has every confidence in the Corrections representative accompanying the Minister and their ability to carry out their responsibilities in New Zealand effectively and professionally.

The Minister for Justice acknowledges and respects Naucukidi's decision and appreciates his continued leadership in maintaining the effective operation and stability of the Corrections Service during this period.

The Acting Corrections Commissioner was granted bail today.

It is alleged he threatened a member of his support staff in July this year.

The case will be called again on the 17th of this month to take his plea.
